I studied at this kwoon a couple years ago when I unfortunately couldn't continue because I switched jobs, out of the area, forcing me to leave. I tried finding another school in the off-chance that schools were fungible but there really is a difference. Not only is the quality of teaching much better here than the other schools I visited, but the atmosphere is much better too. I never felt like a customer while I was at Shaolin-Do... I felt like a student at a place where the instructor legitimately wanted you to succeed. It obviously made an impact on my life... in spite of not being geographically able to attend the school, I still visit the website.

Good learning atmosphere with good instructors and serious students. School is within good commuting distance from work and home...and caters to working adults.

Their philosophy is congruent with their practice in their lifestyle. It is not about violence, but about overall health. The teachers are very encouraging and supportive, and they take into consideration each student's strengths and weaknesses in re: how they treat them. You can tell that the teachers don't see their students simply as a number or $.

After attending several different martial arts schools in the area, I've decided that this one is definitely the best. The training they provide is multi-sided, you get to train your body and mind in various ways, and the more you attend class (which can be every day of the week, if you want!), the better you feel. For me, the classes worked like a magic pill against stress and depression...and I can't tell you how much stronger and healthier, both physically and mentally, I have become over the two years I've attended. And the instructors...they are wonderful people, they have become my friends and mentors, teaching me much more than just kicking and punching. This is the warmest school I have ever seen. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants some change in life, and I'm sure the other students will agree with me 100%.

The dedication to the Chinese Martial Arts is obvious. Sifu Maiky and Claire are excellent. The school is well-built and very clean.

I really enjoy the method of teaching and the variety of material that we have access to learn. I feel the teachers really do care and encourage growth.

Animal forms, weapons, sparring! Need I say more? If so, then the self defense, excellent instruction, and fun workouts. This is only the start. As students develop their strength, agility, and speed...his/her understanding of self will increase. One will learn their physical and mental limitations...and teach themselves to exceed those self implemented limitations. Tai Chi complements the hard side of Kung Fu. It is a journey I will never return from because it has changed my life for the better!

When I joined DC Shaolin-Do I was also beginning an advanced degree. I was not sure that I could do both, but actually the regular Kung-Fu and Tai Chi classes helped me to focus better on my studies (in conjunction with my full time job) and soon I realized that the Master's program would not have been as stress free with out Shaolin-Do! Sifu Maiky is very dedicated and his enthusiasm is contagious! I look forward to attending my classes and truely feel as though they have made me a better person, not only physically, but mentally as well!

Visited several martial arts & tai-chi schools in the Metro Area but found Shoalin-Do to be the best choice that suites my personal goals, that offers more programs to people w/ very different physical abilities, & fits well w/ my work schedule. I'm taking Tai-Chi at Shoalin-Do. My personal goals are to improve my health & well-being, balance, flexibilty, concentration, and most importantly, to learn & practice something that I can do for a life time. I believe the school as well as the students there will help me achieve that.

Shaolin-Do has instituted a structured, yet non-intimidating, environment for learning martial arts. Their adult-focused programs cater to those individuals who have always had an interest in Kung Fu and/or Tai Chi, yet are too shy to try. This has been a great choice for me and my wife.

The teachers are not only incredibly skilled in the martial arts, but in their teaching of them. They push us hard to excel both physically and mentally. I wish I had found them earlier.

Shaolin-Do is a great workout and mentally challenging. You are constantly learning something new and you literally work every muscle in your body!

Sifu and his team are totally amazing!!!! They constantly push us to do our best but somehow manage to do so without being overbearing. We can learn as much or as little as we want but once you're around their enthusiasm (and the enthusiasm of all the GREAT students we have there) you'll want to learn more and more. The instructors motivate the students to do their best through positive reinforcement. Workouts are touch but balanced. There are many students at multiple levels so there's always someone available to go through forms with. And we won't even get started about the wonderful seminar/training opportunities . . .

I've been working out since 1991, but have never been as challenged, either physically or mentally. Since joining in November of 2005 I have found that I am calmer and better able to handle stress, as well as more focused. Shaolin Do teaches in an enviroment that allows the individual to progress at their own pace, without pressure from the instuctors. One of the most interesting things that I've noticed is how it increases both your humility and your confidence. That would seem contradictory, but it isn't. The school has also attacted a very diverse and interesting clientele. Both students and teachers are very supportive and no one is made to feel out of place. It's a great way to continue ones personal development, however it requires tremendous discipline and commitment. But it's still a blast! Check it out!
